Miss Finland 2025 has been stripped of her title after she posted a photo of her pulling a racist "slant-eye" gesture and caused a huge controversy.
23-year-old Sarah Dzafce, who was crowned in September, shared a photo in late November of her pulling back the corners of her eyes, with the caption “eating with a Chinese.”
The image quickly went viral online and sparked backlash from Asian communities, who condemned the gesture that has long been used to mock Asian features.
Dzafce claimed the gesture was “a reaction to a headache”, and that a friend added the caption without her input.
She then posted a video flying business class on Finnair, writing, “people throw hate while I’m in Finnair business class”, sparking further criticism.
Dzafce later apologized in a statement in Finnish, saying she did not intend to offend anyone and that the Miss Finland title comes with responsibility for how she speaks and acts.

However, several far-right Finnish lawmakers went on to post similar slant-eye photos “in support” of Dzafce, with some even refusing to apologize, triggering further outrage.
On Wednesday, Dec. 24, Finland’s prime minister formally apologized to China, Japan and South Korea, saying the gestures do not reflect Finland’s values of “equality and inclusion.”
