India’s prime minister Narendra Modi has visited Israel and signed 16 defense and trade agreements between India and Israel despite Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Modi arrived in Israel on Wednesday, Feb. 25, for a two-day visit to Israel focused on deepening ties in defense, technology, trade and other sectors, and signed 16 bilateral agreements with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but not all details of the 16 agreements were publicly disclosed.
India is already the biggest buyer of Israeli arms.
During his visit, Modi addressed the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, and showed his support to Israel in battling “terror.”
Modi also condemned Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, saying “no cause justifies killing civilians,” drawing parallels to India's 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
“Nothing can justify terrorism... Countering terrorism requires sustained and coordinated global action," Modi said. "We feel your pain, we share your grief. India stands with Israel firmly with full conviction in this moment and beyond."
However, Modi did not mention the 72,097 Palestinians Israel has killed in its genocide in Gaza, only saying he endorses peace in the Strip.
Netanyahu called Modi's visit a "historic" one.
"The bond between Israel and India is a powerful alliance between two global leaders. We are partners in innovation, security and a shared strategic vision. Together, we are building an axis of nations committed to stability and progress," he wrote on X.
This marks Modi’s second visit to Israel.
In 2017, Modi became the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel, according to BBC.
