K-Pop Star Moonbin From ASTRO Has Been Found Dead At The Age Of 25
The police told CNN that authorities believe Moonbin had taken his own life, but the cause of death has not yet been determined.
Moonbin, a member of the K-pop boy group ASTRO, has been found dead in his apartment in Seoul.
He was discovered unresponsive in his home at around 8:10 pm on Wednesday April 19 , local media reported, citing police.
Five hours later on April 20 , his management agency Fantagio confirmed his death, saying that “[Moonbin] has suddenly left us and became a star in the sky.”
“It is even more painful to deliver the sudden news to the fans who have supported Moonbin and sent him generous love. We are more heartbroken because we know the heart of the deceased who always loved and thought of his fans more than anyone else,” his agency said in the statement.
The police told CNN that authorities believe Moonbin had taken his own life.
“No signs of foul play have been found related to this case,” police added.
The star had just made a comeback with another member Sanha as ASTRO’s sub-unit group in January and was in the middle of a world tour, bringing greater shock to the fans.
Moonbin entered the industry as a child actor and model in the 2000s, starring in the popular Korean drama series “Boys Over Flowers”.
At the age of 18, he debuted as the main dancer of ASTRO in 2016.
Moonbin’s younger sister, Moon Sua, is also a member of the Kpop girl group Billlie.
Called the “Moon Siblings”, they are publicly known for their close relationship and dependence on each other.
Moonbin’s agency said his family wishes to hold the funeral quietly, as soon as possible with family, friends and colleagues in attendance.
His death has once again raised concerns over sudden deaths and the high youth suicide rate of young people, including performers, in South Korea.
It comes right after Jung Chae-yul, a 26-year-old actress, was found dead in her home. THe cause of death has not yet been determined.
South Korea has the highest rate of youth suicide among the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations, according to the statistics.
