This Former Afghan Woman Lawmaker Has Been Shot Dead By Gunmen In Her Home
Mursal Nabizada was a lawmaker until the Taliban’s takeover, but she still remained in Afghanistan to fight for rights for women and girls.
Mursal Nabizada, a 32-year-old former woman lawmaker in Afghanistan, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in her home in Kabul.
Nabizada and her guard were killed, while her brother was injured, in the attack overnight on Saturday Jan. 14.
Nabizada had been one of the few women politicians who chose to stay in the country after the Taliban’s takeover.
Nabizada had been a lawmaker from 2018 until 2021, when the Taliban dissolved the parliament after its takeover.
She had stayed in Afghanistan to fight for rights for women and girls, according to Human Rights Watch.
Police say they have launched an investigation into the attack but have not yet made any arrests.
