Netanyahu Has Ordered "Forceful Strikes" On Gaza, Killing 104 People Overnight, Violating The Ceasefire
Israel claimed it launched the strikes after Hamas opened fire on its troops, an allegation Hamas later denied.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his military to “immediately carry out forceful strikes” in Gaza, just weeks after the ceasefire went into effect.
Images and videos coming out of Gaza have shown the devastation the bombings, air strikes have already caused overnight on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Rafah, Gaza City and Khan Younis.
One missile struck the courtyard by Al-Shifa Hospital and bombed a car in Khan Younis.
At least 91 people have been killed, including 24 children, and dozens have been injured.
Israel’s decision to end the ceasefire comes after there was an exchange of fire in Rafah, with one Israeli soldier being injured. Israel claimed that Hamas opened fire on its troops, and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Hamas "will pay a heavy price" for the alleged attack on their military.
Hamas has denied the allegations and says it remains committed to the ceasefire.
The group said Israel had violated the ceasefire and that it will postpone handing over the body of an Israeli hostage.
The remains of 13 Israeli. hostages are believed to still be in Gaza. The 20 living hostages have already been exchanged for Palestinian prisoners, and Hamas says the delay with the remains is due to a lack of equipment to go through the rubble in Gaza to recover the bodies.
The United States, which helped broker the ceasefire deal earlier in October, has urged both sides to avoid escalation, according to Reuters.
US Vice President J.D. Vance told reporters that the ceasefire is still in place, adding, “That doesn't mean that there aren't going to be little skirmishes here and there.”
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said Israel had “hit back” after a soldier was “taken out”.
However, he added that “nothing is going to jeopardize” the ceasefire and called on Hamas”to behave”, according to Al Jazeera.
The UN has called the bombings “extremely concerning” and will be scaling up its relief efforts.
Earlier in the day, Gaza’s Ministry of Health said the death toll caused by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, now stands at 68,531.
