Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is threatening the world not to recognize Palestine, saying “there will be no Palestinian state” and warning people to wait for his response.

Netanyahu’s statement came after the UK, Australia, Canada and Portugal announced that they officially recognize Palestine on Sunday, Sept. 21, in a coordinated diplomatic move ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting with more countries expected to follow suit.

The move reflected a shift in the international community’s attitude against Israel and its ongoing genocide in Gaza, with the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approving a resolution endorsing the “New York Declaration” for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

In response, Netanyahu later on Sunday delivered a statement threatening countries not to recognize Palestine as a state, calling it a “terror state” and saying that the recognition would be a “reward for terrorism.”

He openly admitted that he has worked for years to prevent a Palestinian state from being established and even worked to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank despite International pressure.

Netanyahu added that Israel's response to countries recognizing Palestine would come after his return from a scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump.

Palestine is now recognized as a sovereign state by about 151 of the 193 UN member states, which is roughly 78% of the world’s countries.

While the recognition marks a significant shift in Western countries' diplomacy and growing pressure on Israel, it is still symbolic.

Meanwhile, the UK, Canada and Australia still provide Israel with weapons and military components, some of which are directly used in Gaza.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has now killed more than 65,283 Palestinians, mostly women and Children, and Gaza City is officially in a man-made famine created by Israel.
