Netanyahu Has Called Trump’s Plan To Take Over And Ethnically Cleanse Gaza The "First Original Idea In Years”

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called US President Donald Trump's plan to "take over" Gaza "the first original idea in years."

On Sunday, Feb. 2, Netanyahu had traveled to the US for a six-day trip to meet Trump, becoming the first world leader to do so after Trump assumed the presidency.

During a joint interview and subsequent press conference on Tuesday Feb. 4, Trump openly called for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza, saying they should leave Gaza.

Trump said that Palestinians should be moved out of Gaza to other countries like Egypt and Jordan, adding that he would help Palestinians live somewhere nice, in a place other than Gaza.

“Like some place where they could live and not die because Gaza’s a guarantee that they’re gonna end up dying,” Trump said.

Ethnic cleansing is involves one ethnic or religious group's deliberate act to forcibly mass expel or kill members of one ethnic or religious group in certain geographic areas.

At a press conference afterwards, Trump again laid out his vision for the Gaza Strip, saying he wants the US to take over, own it and to turn it into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

He refused a two-state solution and suggested that the nearly two million Palestinians should be expelled from Gaza and moved to other countries like Egypt and Jordan, claiming it will “give them a chance at life” without destruction and death, calling Gaza a “demolition site” and a “hellhole.”

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too, we’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out,” he said.

In a video statement on Friday, Feb. 7, Netanyahu said his meeting with Trump was a "great turning point for the future of Israel."

"At this meeting, [Trump] also brought up his idea about Gaza, for the day after Hamas, and I think it is worth listening very well to this idea, which is the first original idea to be raised in years," he said.

Netanyahu also said he had spoken to various US politicians from both the Republicans and Democrats, who he said all agreed with him that Iran should not have nuclear weapons and Hamas must be eliminated.

"I must also tell you, they all expressed great appreciation for Israel's major achievements. I said that we are changing the face of the Middle East, and they simply saluted this," he said.
