New Zealand‘s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has labeled the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny as essential workers during the country’s coronavirus lockdown.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Ardern said that the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy would potentially be quite busy at home with their own families and bunnies at this time and may not be able to get everywhere this year.
However, she called on people to make their own Easter hunts for the children in their neighborhoods by drawing Easter eggs and putting them in their front windows, the same way some in New Zealand have been placing teddy bears in their front windows for a global teddy bear hunt to cheer up children during the pandemic.
New Zealand has been in lockdown since Mar. 25. The country has so far reported 1,160 cases of COVID-19 and one death, according to the New York Times.
