An Israeli Settler Shot And Killed This Palestinian Activist Featured In Oscar-Winning Film “No Other Land”
31-year-old Awdah Hathaleen, an activist, teacher and father of three was shot by Israeli settlers while they tried to move an excavator through a Palestinian village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank to work on illegal Israeli settlements.

An Israeli settler shot and killed a Palestinian activist, Awdah Hathaleen, who was featured and helped film in the Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land”.
The 31-year-old activist, teacher and father of three was shot by Israeli settlers while they tried to move an excavator through Umm al-Kheir, a Palestinian village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, to work on illegal Israeli settlements.
Palestinians in the village had coordinated with Israeli settlers to allow the excavator to pass, but witnesses on the ground said the excavator had run over and damaged water pipes and other infrastructure, according to Al Jazeera.
In a video shared by the Israeli co-director of “No Other Land”, Yuval Abraham, an Israeli settler later identified as Yinon Levi was seen manically firing a handgun as Palestinians try to stop the destruction.
Hathaleen had been standing about 10 to 15 meters away from the incident when a bullet from Levi’s firearm struck him in the chest, according to Al Jazeera.
When a villager told Levi he had shot someone, he said, “I’m glad I did it.”
Hathaleen was taken to the hospital, and Israeli authorities later informed the family he had died but have not released his body yet.
“I can hardly believe it. My dear friend Awdah was slaughtered this evening. He was standing in front of the community center in his village when a settler fired a bullet that pierced his chest and took his life,” the Palestinian co-director of “No Other Land”, Basel Adra, wrote on X, “This is how Israel erases us — one life at a time.”
The US and EU had previously sanctioned Levi with an asset freeze and travel bans for his role in inciting violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Police have arrested Levi for reckless manslaughter and unlawful imprisonment but have placed him under house arrest.
The UN has called out the ongoing violence by Israeli settlers and its military against Palestinians in the West Bank, saying it has led to human rights violations and affected food security and sovereignty for Palestinians.
Since Oct.7, 968 Palestinians, including at least 204 children, have been killed in the occupied West Bank, according to the UN's human rights office (OCHA).
