A court sentenced Hayat to death and ordered him to pay ordered Hayat to pay 2.5 million rupees (US$9,000) as compensation to Yousaf's family.
The man who shot and murdered this 17-year-old Pakistani TikToker has been sentenced to death.

Sana Yousaf, who had 800,000 followers on TikTok and almost half a million followers on Instagram, was shot twice in the chest in her home in Islamabad by a 22-year-old man in June 2025.
She died before medical help could arrive.

Police said the man, Umar Hayat, had killed Yousaf because she didn’t reply to his repeated attempts to “become friends” with her.

Hayat had reportedly traveled to Islamabad to wish Yousaf happy birthday, but after being unable to meet her, he forcibly entered her house and shot her in front of her mother and aunt.
Police arrested Hayat, who confessed to the murder in July, saying he had developed a one-sided obsession with Yousaf after some interactions online, according to local outlet Dawn.

On Tuesday, May 19, a court sentenced Hayat to death and ordered him to pay ordered Hayat to pay 2.5 million rupees (US$9,000) as compensation to Yousaf's family.
The murder of Yousaf, who posted about her everyday life and videos of her lip syncing and traveling, sparked widespread outrage, with people calling out the country’s systematic failure to protect girls and women.
Thousands of women are killed each year due to gender-based violence in Pakistan, but conviction rates remain extremely low at close to just 2%.
