The Remains Of This Palestinian Journalist Buried Under The Rubble By An Israeli Airstrike Have Been Found
27-year-old Palestinian journalist Marwa Musallam was known for her warm smile and her morning programs on the radio.

The skull of Palestinian journalist Marwa Musallam has been recovered from the rubble of her home in Gaza City after she was buried alive by an Israeli air strike 45 days earlier.
The 27-year-old was known for her warm smile and her morning programs on the radio, which touched the hearts of Palestinians, conveying their daily struggles and concerns with honesty and transparency, according to local news outlet Al Resalah.
Musallam was the sole provider and guardian for her brothers after her parents left Gaza for treatment before Oct. 7, 2023.
Mussallam believed that journalism was a lifelong message before a profession.
On July 5, Israeli forces launched an airstrike on Musallam’s home in east Gaza city, flattening it to the ground and leaving Musallam trapped under the rubble.
Since then, communication has been lost, and no one could reach Musallam or her brothers due to intense fighting in the area.
Days later, Mussallam managed to signal that she was alive when her friends started receiving calls from her phone and also from her brother’s phone, according to journalist Mariam Al-Dabla.
Journalists in Gaza called on the UN, the Red Cross and the international community to pressure Israel to let civil defense and rescue teams in the area to rescue Mussallam and her brothers, but their cries for help went unanswered.
Mussallam reportedly stayed alive under the rubble calling for help for at least 20 days, according to local news.
45 days later, on Aug. 16, her remains were found after all efforts to save her failed.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has killed more than 239 journalists in Gaza, making it the deadliest period for journalists since the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) began collecting data in 1992.
Among those killed, at least 26 were directly targeted and murdered by Israeli forces.
