Israel killed nine out of 10 children of Palestinian woman doctor Alaa al-Najjar, launching an airstrike on their home in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
35-year-old Najjar and her husband, Hamdi al-Najjar, are both doctors at Nasser hospital, where she was working in the emergency department as a pediatrician, attending to injured children from Israel’s attacks.

Her husband had gone home to stay with their children after leaving the hospital earlier in the day on Friday, May 23.
The same day, Najjar, who was at the emergency department, received the burned and charred bodies of nine of her children: Yahya, 12; Rakan, 10’ Eve, 9; Jubran, 8; Ruslan, 7; Rival, 5; Sadeen, 3; Luqman, 2; and Sidar who was not yet one year old.

Rescue workers had found the children’s bodies in the rubble, some dismembered and badly burned and wrapped them in small white body bags.
Two of the children were missing and were found a day later on Saturday, May 24, trapped under the rubble.

The only surviving child, 11-year-old Adam, suffered severe injuries but is reported to be in stable condition following surgery, and al-Najjar’s husband was rushed to the hospital and remains in intensive care.

The Israeli military said it had struck suspected fighters operating from a structure next to its forces, adding that it is reviewing ”the claim regarding harm to uninvolved civilians,” Al Jazeera reported.

Hamas said Israel is “deliberately targeting medical personnel, civilians and their families in an attempt to break their will”.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has killed or injured more than 50,000 children in Gaza, according to UNICEF.
