Palestinians Whose Families Were Killed By Israel’s Genocide Are Suing British Oil Giant BP Over Its Complicity

A group of Palestinians whose family members were killed by Israel's genocide in Gaza is suing British oil giant BP for being complicit in war crimes by supplying crude oil to Israel.

BP operates the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, which transports crude oil from Azerbaijan to Israel and provides about 28% of Israel's crude oil supply, the Guardian reported.

Reports showed that the oil from the pipeline is refined into jet fuel which is used by the Israeli military planes to conduct airstrikes in Gaza, according to Guardian.

The group of victims said that Israel relies on its oil imports to run its fighter jets, tanks and other military vehicles, as well as bulldozers, which are used to clear Palestinian homes and olive groves “to make way for unlawful Israeli settlements.”

In a letter sent to BP before taking legal action, the group, which includes a British citizen who lost 16 family members in an Israeli airstrike, said that BP is violating its own human rights policy, which requires the company to avoid contributing to human rights abuses.

It said in doing so, BP is complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law.

The group, which is supported by the International Centre for Justice for Palestinians, is demandingBP immediately stop supplying oil to Israel through the BTC pipeline, admit responsibility, agree to mediation for damages, disclose its records about its supply to Israel and issue a public apology.
