This Peruvian Police Officer Dressed Up As A Capybara To Bust Drug Dealers On Valentine’s Day

Police in Peru are back with their humorous and bizarre method of busting drug dealers, and this time with an officer dressed in a capybara costume.

On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, a Peruvian police officer dressed as the giant rodent arrested a suspected drug trafficker in the Lurin district, south of the capital, Lima.

The Peruvian police shared a video online showing the capybara-costumed officer bursting into the residence of the suspected man, wrestling him to the ground before handcuffing him.

Towards the end, the video also showed seized drugs on the table.

During the raid, Peru’s Escuadrón Verde, a special anti-drug unit, found more than 1,700 packages of cocaine paste and cannabis inside the house.

“On this occasion, Valentine’s Day, lover’s day, we sought to camouflage ourselves with the character of the capybara,” the unit’s leader said.

This is not the first time Peruvian police officers have used disguises to capture drug dealers.

In December 2024, an officer in Lima disguised themselves as the Grinch to arrest a drug dealer.

In February 2024, a police officer in Peru also went viral for dressing up as a teddy bear with a Valentine’s note to catch a drug dealer on Valentine’s Day.
