In 2020, a group of more than 2,000 elderly Swiss women sued the Swiss government at Europe’s highest human rights court for failing to act on reducing carbon emissions.

In April 2024, the court issued a landmark decision in their favor, ordering the Swiss government to revise its climate targets and policies to take greater action on reducing emissions.
