This Slovak Politician Released A Dove During His Speech To The EU Parliament As A Symbol Of Peace
"I would like to set this bird free as a symbol of peace, to symbolize that Europe needs peace."
A Slovak member of the European parliament released a white dove during his speech to the European parliament as a symbol of peace on Wednesday, April 24.
During his speech, 70-year-old Miroslav Radačovský said he wished for peace for “the whole of Europe, the whole of the world, the Russians and the Ukrainians”.
He then reached into his bag, and to everyone’s surprise, pulled out a white dove.
“And if I may, I would like to set this bird free as a symbol of peace, to symbolize that Europe needs peace,” he said as he released the dove and it perched on a desk behind him.
When Radačovský finished his speech, a colleague is then heard saying, “Can you catch it as well?”
Some members of parliament found the gesture unacceptable, saying it went against parliament’s rules.
Meanwhile, a vice president of the European Parliament said he will report the incident to the president and hoped “that the animal will be alright.”
