South Korea Has Reinstated The Prime Minister After He Was Also Impeached After The President
Following his reinstatement, Han Duck-soo called for national unity, saying, “There’s no left or right — what matters is the advancement of our nation.”

South Korea’s constitutional court has reinstated prime minister Han Duck-soo as acting president, overturning his impeachment.
Han was appointed as acting president after parliament suspended and impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol for attempting to declare martial law in December 2024.
A few days after Yoon was impeached, opposition lawmakers voted to impeach Han after he refused to appoint judges to fill three vacancies in the Constitutional Court, accusing him of delaying the process of impeaching Yoon.
Han had refused to appoint judges to the constitutional court until all parties agreed on whether he had the authority to do so and was impeached as a result.
The opposition had hoped to appoint more judges to improve the likelihood Yoon would get impeached.
On Monday, March 24, the judges ruled seven to one to reverse Han’s impeachment, keeping him as acting president.
Following his reinstatement, Han called for national unity, saying, “There’s no left or right — what matters is the advancement of our nation.”
The judges will now vote on Yoon’s impeachment, but the date is yet to be scheduled, and if the court votes in favor, the country must hold presidential elections within 60 days.
If the court rules against the impeachment, Yoon will continue to be South Korea’s president.
