After Nearly Two Years Of Civil War, Sudan’s Military Has Regained Control Of The Presidential Palace
The military also seized control of the main headquarters of the country’s central bank on Saturday, March 22, as it kept advancing in the capital.

Sudan’s military has regained control of the presidential palace in Sudan’s capital Khartoum in a blow to the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Since 2023, Sudan has been caught in a civil war due to a power struggle between the Sudanese military and RSF.
The RSF had taken control of nearly all of Khartoum, including government offices and the presidential palace when the civil war erupted.
On Friday, March 21, the Sudanese military announced it had recaptured the presidential palace, a symbolic win since it represents the seat of power.
“Today the flag is raised, the palace is back and the journey continues until victory is complete,” Sudan’s information minister wrote on X.
Soldiers from the Sudanese military posted photos inside the palace to celebrate the victory.
The military also seized control of the main headquarters of the country’s central bank on Saturday, March 22, as it kept advancing in the capital.
The Sudanese military has pushed the RSF from the capital, but the RSF still maintains control of several areas outside the city.
"Our valiant forces are still present in the vicinity of the area," an RSF spokesperson said, according to BBC.
Both sides have promised to keep fighting until they claim control of Sudan.
With the RSF controlling much of western Sudan and Sudan's military recent victory in the capital, experts said the situation could lead to a de facto partition of Sudan, with each side establishing its own unrecognized government, according to AP.
Since the war began, estimates say up to 150,000 people have been killed, including thousands of children.
More than 12 million people have had to flee their homes, and over half of the population – about 26 million people – are at risk of famine, according to the UN.
Both the RSF and the Sudanese army have been accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
