Israel Has Killed This Football Player Known As The “Palestinian Pelé” While He Was Waiting For Aid In Gaza
41-year-old Suleiman Al-Obeid had represented Palestine in 24 international matches and scored over 100 goals.

Israeli forces have killed a football player known as the “Palestinian Pelé” while he was waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza.
41-year-old Suleiman Al-Obeid was nicknamed after the famous Brazilian football star Pelé and had played for Palestine's national football team, representing the country in 24 international matches.
He had scored more than 100 goals, “making him one of the brightest stars of Palestinian football”.
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the Palestinian Football Association said Obeid was killed after “occupation forces targeted those waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip.”
Obeid leaves behind his wife and five children.
He is one of the 785 Palestinian athletes and sports officials, including 437 football players, killed by Israel since Oct. 7, 2023, according to the association.
More than 1,300 Palestinians have died trying to reach GHF's distribution centers since May, according to Al Jazeera.
