Hundreds Of People In Taiwan Held A Protest In Support Of Palestine And To Call For A Permanent Ceasefire

Thousands of kilometers away from the war in Gaza, people in Taiwan held a protest in support of Palestine and to call for a permanent ceasefire.
About 500 people marched in Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, on Saturday Nov. 25, organizers told Almost.
Earlier in the week on Nov. 22, people held a demonstration outside the Israeli representative office at the Taipei 101 building and delivered a petition letter calling for a permanent ceasefire.
The Saturday protest saw an even bigger turnaround rate.
Most of the people who attended the protest on Saturday were foreigners from all over the world, including Indonesia, Japan, US and Pakistan, but there were local Taiwanese people present.
Almost, in collaboration with organizers For Peace Taiwan, asked protesters why they joined the protest.
“Taiwan’s government is basically is pro-Israel,” a protester named Parson told Almost. “But I will use my own way to help more people understand what’s really going on, to help more people understand why so many foreigners support this cause, why so many Taiwanese people don’t and so we must let more Taiwanese people aware.”
“We have kids as well. We really condemn Israel, who killed kids and children in Palestine,” an Indonesian mother named Linda told Almost. “That is not a war. That is genocide.”
Others also already attended protest in other countries, as was the case of Japanese man Egami Kenichiro.
Protestors said they hoped the people of Gaza would remain strong and they will continue to spread awareness so that Palestinians know “you are not alone.”
On Nov. 22, the Israeli government and Hamas agreed to a deal that would see a brief ceasefire that would see Hamas return 50 Israeli hostages in return for Israel releasing 150 Palestinian prisoners held in Israel and safe access to humanitarian relief in Gaza.
