Trump Was Supposed To Present The Trophy For Chelsea’s Football Win But Ended Up Staying On Stage
“I knew he was going to be here, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused,”

Chelsea players were visibly confused after US President Donald Trump took center stage during their FIFA Club World Cup trophy ceremony.
On Sunday, July 15, the English football club defeated the French club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), 3-0 with a spectacular performance for the FIFA Club World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
During post-match celebrations, Trump joined FIFA president Gianni Infantino to present the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.
While Infantino quickly moved out of view, Trump lingered beside the captain as he lifted the trophy.
The team then jumped up and down in celebration, while Trump remained among them on stage.
Chelsea player Cole Palmer, who scored two goals against PSG, meanwhile, looked visibly confused behind Trump.
“I knew he was going to be here, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused,” Palmer later said in an interview.
Trump’s presence at the football match comes as the country makes preparations to host the upcoming 2025 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.
The US has received backlash after US immigration and customs enforcement agency (ICE) and Customs Border Patrol (CBP) said they will be present at World Cup matches, warning people to bring proof of their legal status to avoid detention.
“We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the games. But when the time is up we want them to go home, otherwise they will have to talk to Secretary Noem,” US vice-president JD Vance also said.
