Trump Dismissed This Afghan Woman Journalist’s Question Because He Couldn’t Understand Her Accent

US president Donald Trump dismissed an Afghan woman journalist's question because he could not understand her accent.

During a joint press conference with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Feb. 4, when Trump laid out his vision for the Gaza Strip, he dismissed a question from journalist Nazira Karimi, saying he couldn’t “understand a word she is saying”.

Karimi had asked Trump about his plans for Afghanistan, the future of the Afghan people and if he is going to recognize the Taliban.

In response, Trump said, “I’m having a little hard time understanding you,” and asked her where she was from.

After Karimi said she was from Afghanistan, Trump told her,“ It’s a beautiful voice and a beautiful accent. The only problem is I can’t understand a word you’re saying.”

“Good luck. Live in peace,” he added.

This is not an isolated incident.

During a press conference later with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, Feb. 13, Trump also dismissed another reporter's question, which was asked to him in English, due to the reporter’s accent and cut him off saying, “I can’t understand a word he’s saying.”

He also used a translator to translate English to English when another reporter asked him a question in English had to have a translator repeat the question back to him, also in English, before he could answer it during another interview with Modi on Feb. 14.
