Trump Said The US Just Wants "A Giant Piece Of Ice" But He Won’t Use Force To Annex It
“It’s the United States alone that can protect this giant, massive land, this giant piece of ice.”
US president Donal Trump delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, and said he will not use force to annex Greenland.
Trump started his speech on Wednesday, Jan. 21, by celebrating the one year anniversary of his inauguration as president and praising his tariff policies, saying that after just one year, there is “virtually no inflation and extraordinarily high economic growth” in the US.
Trump then claimed he ended eight wars, including between India-Pakistan, and Armenia and “Aberbaijan”.
He went on to say that if it were not for the US defending Greenland during World War II, Europeans would now be speaking German and Japanese.
Trump said the US has done a lot for NATO without asking for anything, adding that all that he is asking for is Greenland.
“It’s the United States alone that can protect this giant, massive land, this giant piece of ice,” he said. “And that’s the reason I’m seeking immediate negotiations to once again discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States, just as we have acquired many other territories throughout our history, as many of the European nations have acquired. There’s nothing wrong with it.”
He also ruled out using force to annex Greenland.
On the sidelines of the WEF, Trump later had a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss “the acquisition of Greenland by the United States.”
Trump then announced on his Truth Social platform that they had reached a framework on a future deal for Greenland, adding that based upon this understanding, he will not be imposing new tariffs on European countries that oppose his annexation of Greenland.
