Trump Has Threatened Russia With 100% Tariffs If It Doesn’t Agree To A Ceasefire In Ukraine In 50 Days
“We’re going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don’t have a deal within 50 days. It’s very simple — and it will be 100%,” Trump said.

On Monday, July 14, US President Donald Trump said the US will impose tariffs on Russia if a ceasefire deal to end the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
The announcement came during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House.
“We’re going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don’t have a deal within 50 days. It’s very simple — and it will be 100%,” Trump said.
The proposed measures resemble secondary sanctions, aimed at pressuring countries such as China, India and Turkey that continue to trade with Russia despite Western sanctions.
Trump also said the US has reached a deal to sell “top-of-the-line” weapons to NATO member states, which will be sent to Ukraine as part of a NATO-coordinated operation funded by alliance members.
He added that he is “very, very unhappy” with Russia and President Vladimir Putin.
"I always hang up, say, 'Well, that was a nice phone call.’ And then missiles are launched into Kyiv or some other city and I say, 'That's strange.' And after that happens three or four times, you say, the talk doesn't mean anything," Trump said.
Speaking about Putin, Trump said, “I don’t want to say he’s an assassin, but he’s a tough guy,” adding, “Ultimately, talk doesn’t talk — it’s got to be action, it’s got to be results.”
This is a major shift in Trump's approach to the war between Ukraine and Russia after he and vice president J.D. Vance had a huge argument with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House in February.
Zelenskyy later posted on X, thanking Trump and the US for their “willingness to support Ukraine.”
