Trump Said The US and Israel's War On Iran Could Last Four To Five Weeks Or Even Longer
Trump said the US is prepared for the conflict to continue for as long as necessary, adding the country has “the strongest and most powerful military by far”.
US president Donald Trump said the joint US andIsraeli war against Iran could last longer than five weeks, as the US identified the first soldiers killed in the attacks.
Speaking during a Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House on Monday, March 2, Trump said the operation — known as “Operation Epic Fury” — was originally projected to take four to five weeks to eliminate what he called threats from Iran’s government.
But he added that the US is prepared for the conflict to continue for as long as necessary, saying the country has “the strongest and most powerful military by far”.
“Whatever the time is, it’s okay,” Trump said. “Somebody actually said from the media, ‘I think he’ll get bored after about a week or two.’ No, we don’t get bored. I never get bored.”
His remarks came as US Central Command confirmed that six American service members have been killed after an unmanned aircraft system evaded air defenses and struck a US command center in Kuwait.
Four of the deaths were initially identified on Monday, while two more were later confirmed after their bodies were found in the rubble.
Trump paid tribute to the four identified soldiers who died during his speech, calling them heroes and saying the mission would continue with “ferocious unyielding resolve” in their memory.
The war began on Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched joint unprovoked attacks on Iran, saying the strikes were aimed at “obliterating” Iran’s nuclear ambitions and achieving regime change.
The US and Israeli strikes killed more than 787 people in Iran, including 165 children, as of Tuesday, March 3, according to Al Jazeera.
Iran has since carried out retaliatory strikes targeting US bases across the region, including in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Oman.
