Trump Said The US Has Already “Won” The War Against Iran But Doesn’t Want To “Leave Too Early”
Despite declaring victory, Trump said US forces would remain in the region to complete what he described as the final phase of the mission.
US president Donald Trump has declared that the US has achieved “total military dominance” over Iran 11 days after it launched an unprovoked war with Israel on Iran and assassinated its supreme leader.
Speaking to supporters at a rally in Kentucky on Wednesday, March 11, Trump claimed the US-led campaign had already neutralized major threats from Iran.
He said the operation, called “Operation Epic Fury”, had destroyed much of Iran’s military capability.
Trump said the campaign had “virtually destroyed” Iran’s military systems, saying Iran’s missile capacity had been reduced by 90% and that drone production had dropped by 85%.
“We’ve won, let me tell you, we’ve won,” Trump said. “We won the bet in the first hour. It was over.”
Despite declaring victory, Trump said US forces would remain in the region to complete what he described as the final phase of the mission.
“We’ve got to finish the job,” he said. “We don’t want to go back every two years.”
Trump also announced that the International Energy Agency (IEA) had agreed to release 400 million barrels of oil from global reserves as a result of rising oil prices due to the war.
This is the largest coordinated release in the agency’s history.
Trump said the move is intended to lower fuel prices for American consumers while US military operations continue.
