Turkey Has Said Hamas Is Ready To Hand Over The Governance Of Gaza As Part Of The Ceasefire

“These agreements, as long as they protect the rights of the Palestinian people, will be subject to time and provocations,” Fidan said.”

Turkey’s foreign minister Hakan Fidan has said that Hamas is prepared to hand over the governance of Gaza to a Palestinian-led committee.

Fidan’s statement came after he met with delegations from Arab and Muslim countries in Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday, Nov. 3, as well as members of Hamas’ political bureau, to further advance the ceasefire in Gaza.

He said that Hamas is prepared to transfer Gaza governance to a committee of Palestinians.

“These agreements, as long as they protect the rights of the Palestinian people, will be subject to time and provocations,” Fidan said.”

The proposed committee would likely consist of independent figures from Gaza, though the details of how it would be formed and when the transition might take place remain unclear.

Fidan told reporters that any international stabilization force involved in Gaza would need a clear mandate authorized by the UN Security Council.

He explained that external involvement must support Palestinian sovereignty, not replace it.

However, a Hamas official told Reuters that the group plans to maintain security control during any interim period and will not agree to disarm.

Fidan also said that Israel is regularly violating the ceasefire agreement and preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza as agreed upon.

According to the ceasefire, Israel is supposed to allow 600 trucks of aid to enter Gaza daily, but Israel keeps blocking aid from entering and allows only a minimum amount.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his military recently to “carry out forceful strikes” in Gaza, with Israel repeatedly attacking Gaza, killing more than 241 Palestinians since the ceasefire began on Oct. 10.

Israel’s genocide has killed more than 68,872, mostly women and children, since Oct. 7, 2023.
