Turkey Sent This 51-Year-Old Guy With No Special Gear To Shoot At The Olympics And Got The Silver Medal
"Did Turkey send a hitman to the Olympics?"
People are raving about Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç and his casual style while competing in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team final at the Paris Olympics.
The 51-year-old rolled up without any additional gear, wearing only his prescription glasses with one hand in his pocket, and went on to win the silver medal alongside his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan.
The seven-time European champion’s casual manner is a stark contrast to many competitors who often don professional shooting eyewear to help with focus and eye tiredness, as well as bulky ear-protection for noise cancellation.
A screenshot showing Dikeç with Serbia’s fully decked out Damir Mikec has gone viral, with someone writing “It’s even funnier with his Inspector Gadget nemesis.”
“Turkey sent a 51 yr old guy with no specialized lenses, eye cover or ear protection and got the silver medal” a person on X wrote in a now viral post.
People also couldn’t help but compare him to Kim Yeji, a South Korean woman shooter, who also became a social media sensation for her “main character energy” while she broke the world record at a competition earlier in the year.
In Japan, “Free User Ojisan” began trending, as people describe Dikeç’s shooting technique as that of a gamer who wins without spending money on premium games.
Dikeç is a retired Turkish army officer and a five-time Olympian who has appeared in every Summer Games since 2008.
“I did not need special equipment,” Dikeç reportedly told Turkish media after his win. “I’m a natural, a natural shooter.”
His silver medal is his first and the first for Turkey in shooting.
Dikeç’s newfound fans have been quick to find his social media and discovered he love to spend time with his cat and goes on occasional tourism trips.
“Turkish Olympic marksman does not ‘look like a hitman’, he’s dadcore,” another person on X wrote.
