A Chinese takeaway that has served York in the UK for more than 10 years was defaced with racist graffiti telling the owners to “Go home.”
Dragon House, run by a local family, was spray-painted overnight on Aug. 29 with slurs including "Go home", "Cat & Dog", St George’s flags, and the word “Chinese” was also covered.
The owners said they were shaken and later wrote on Facebook that it was not just paint on the wall but “blatant discrimination.”
“We work hard every day to serve our customers with love and dedication. I believe our community is stronger than hate, and I hope everyone will stand together against this kind of behaviour,” they added.
After the post went viral, the community quickly came together to support the owners.
A local window cleaner helped to wash off the graffiti and offered to clean the shop’s windows without charge.
Others wrote letters to the family and shared messages of support, saying the family would not be left alone.
In recent days, St George’s flags, which have been used as emblems for the far-right movement and are often associated with football hooliganism and racism, have been put up across England, sparking concerns.
Police said they are looking for three people seen on CCTV but have not yet confirmed if they are investigating the graffiti as a hate crime.
