Yemen Houthis Are Now Attacking Israel To Retaliate Against The US And Israel's War On Iran

The Houthis said that its attacks would continue "until the aggression against all fronts of the resistance ceases."

Yemen's Houthi rebels have bombed Israel for the first time since the US and Israel launched a war against Iran on Feb. 28, opening a new front in the war  that has already killed thousands of people and upended global trade.

The Houthis, an armed group backed by Iran that controls most of Yemen, have been in constant clashes with Israel since Oct. 7, 2023, to retaliate against its genocide in Gaza and support the Palestinian people.

It also blocked and attacked commercial and military ships in the Red Sea bound for Israel.

However, the Houthis and Israel stopped attacking each other after Israel and Hamas agreed to a “ceasefire” in Gaza on Oct. 10, 2025.

But then, on Saturday, March 28, after holding back for nearly a month, the Houthis’ military spokesperson announced that the group had carried out "the first military operation using a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting sensitive Israeli military sites in southern occupied Palestine" in response to the US and Israel’s war on Iran.

Hours later, the Houthis launched a second missile toward Israel.

Both were intercepted by Israeli defense, and no injuries or damage were reported, according to CNN.

The Houthis also claimed responsibility for a drone launched toward Israel's southern Red Sea resort city of Eilat, which Israel said it shot down.

referring to Iran and its ally Hezbollah, a Lebanese political party and militant group funded by Iran.

The Houthis control territory along the Red Sea coast near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a major shipping chokepoint.

If it moves to close the strait by targeting ships — as it did during Israel’s genocide in Gaza — it could add to the pressure on global trade already reeling from Iran's near-total closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes.

Together, the two choke points could strangle a huge portion of the world's maritime trade.

Oil prices have already spiked to over US$100 a barrel.
