More than 150 pizza chefs competed for the title of the “Great Argentine Champion” at the 10th Argentine Pizza and Empanada Championships in Buenos Aires earlier in June.
Competing on a stage with 12 ovens, chefs performed tricks with pizza dough, showing off their best tricks in the freestyle category.
Another competition sees contestants racing to make the biggest pizza dough in a limited amount of time.
Twirling and swirl, the chefs try to impress a panel of judges made up of fellow chefs, cooks and journalists.
“At one point, I started practicing with rags, and I saw I began to like what I was doing,” one chef told AFP. “So I discovered a hidden potential and I started going all in.”
The winner earns the title of the “Great Argentine Champion” and becomes a member of the team representing Argentina at the 2023 World Pizza Championship in Parma, Italy.
