This Argentine influencer was murdered by her male classmate and people are demanding justice.
21-year-old Catalina Gutiérrez’s body was found inside her mother’s car in the early hours of Thursday, July 18, in Córdoba, Argentina.
Gutierrez, an architecture student, had planned to meet up with her friends for bowling the night before.
Gutierrez, who has more than 80,000 followers on Instagram, even sent a voice memo to her boyfriend that she was on the way, but never made it.
Her family and friends reported her missing that night and tracked her down using her iPhone's location hours later.
Police have since arrested Gutierrez’s friend and university classmate, Néstor Soto, who broke down and confessed to killing her, saying she was “the love of his life”.
Soto said he had had asked Gutierrez to pick him up and police believe he attacked Gutierrez in his house.
Family told local news that Gutierrez never mentioned Soto behaving inappropriately towards her and that they didn't have a romantic relationship.
The death of Gutierrez has shocked the people in Córdoba, who are demanding justice.
Soto could face lifetime imprisonment if the court finds him guilty of femicide — killing a woman or a girl because of her gender.
