British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for the coronavirus. In a video shared on his social media, Johnson, 55, said that he is self-isolating at 10 Downing Street and will continue to run the country from home.
He was tested on Thursday after he experienced mild symptoms of running a temperature and a persistent cough, he said.
Following Johnson’s announcement, the UK’s health secretary Matt Hancock said he had also tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing “very mild” symptoms.
Johnson is the first leader of a major Western country known to have contracted the virus and comes the same week Buckingham Palace announced Prince Charles had also tested positive for the virus.
