Fresh CCTV has surfaced showing Suga of BTS’ recent drunk driving incident, with the megastar now facing prison or a fine.
Suga, real name Min Yoon-gi, is still under investigation for drunk driving an electric scooter in Seoul on Aug. 6.
CCTV footage initially released by the Korean news outlet JTBC reportedly showed the artist speeding on the streets of Seoul.
However, new footage shows that the initial footage released was false.
Instead, the new video shows Suga driving the e-scooter on the sidewalk with pedestrians near him before turning, abruptly stopping and falling off his seated electric scooter at his residential entrance.
A few seconds later, three police officers are seen approaching him.
The police released a new statement about the latest CCTV footage and said that Suga had visited his private studio to drink after drinking at a restaurant.
He then headed home, where he was caught.
The rapper’s studio is reportedly 500 meters from his residence, which is a five-minute walk.
Authorities said despite the short distance, Suga will still receive a possible prison sentence between two to five years or a fine between 10 million won (US$7,375) and 20 million won (US$14,751).
A breathalyser test found Suga had a blood alcohol level of 0.227%, the highest recorded in a celebrity DUI case in South Korea.
Some BTS fans are demanding the artist leave the mega-hit K-pop group by lining flower wreaths outside his label HYBE’s headquarters on Aug. 12.
The messages contained such phrases as “Withdraw from the band Min Yoongi,” “Aren’t you sorry for your fans?” “Congratulations on your downfall,” and more.
However, many other fans stand by Suga, saying that this is a small exception and that they still support the idol entirely.
Suga is still undergoing mandatory military service while the investigation takes place. He is expected to finish his duty in June 2025.
