Cabo Oliveira is the mascot for Rio de Janeiro military police’s 17th battalion.
He was rescued by his human, police officer Cristiano Oliveira, in 2019 who found him in poor conditions near the police station.
Since then, Cabo Oliveira has amassed more than 120,000 followers on Instagram and even has a TikTok account.
“I took a coat, a police shirt and put it on him as a joke. I took a picture and sent it to our station’s roster groups and posted them there. And then the joke started going viral,” his human told Reuters.
People love Cabo Oliveira to the point that if there is no post from him in more than three days, fans start asking “Where did Oliveira go?”.
His Instagram shows him working hard, running alongside motorcycles, checking drivers licenses and sitting at the front seat of the police car.
Police officers say they hope Cabo Oliveria’s story spreads a message against animal abandonment, according to local media.
