People In China Are Labeling Famous Celebrity Couples As “U Swan, He Frog”

Remember hot rodent boyfriend? Well people in China are obsessed with a new phrase and it’s “u swan, he frog”

So here’s what it means and how it all came about.

On Aug. 7, a white influencer in China known as “YourKris” on Chinese social media Xiaohongshu uploaded a tearful selfie bidding goodbye to her boyfriend in an airport with the caption, “Bye baby.”

To "comfort" her, her fans flooded the comment section with savage Chinese sayings directly translated into English, such as “You are a beauty, and he is a monkey,” and “Man like taxi, one go, next come,” and also advised her to date a Chinese man instead.

Among the thousands of comments, one particular stuck out. It read: “You pretty, he ugly, u swan, he frog!”

The phrase comes from a literal translation of a Chinese idiom, "A toad wants to eat the meat of a swan,” which is traditionally used to describe someone who is pursing someone or something out of their league.

Soon after, people found the departing boyfriend's social media account, crowning him the "famous frog".

And soon the phrase caught on and spread onto Western social media where people started to name their favorite celebrity swan-frog pairs, such as: Taylor Swift and Matty Healy.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

The phrase has also been adapted into “you pretty, he pretty, u swan, he swan!” in the cases of duos who are both "pretty", like Manny Jacinto and Dianne Doan.

And Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge.
