Colombia's President Blasted Israel's Genocide In Gaza, Saying It Is An "Experiment By The Super-Rich"
Petro also called out the leaders of NATO for being involved in the genocide as most of its 32 member countries have sold or sent weapons to Israel.

Colombian president Gustavo Petro has called out Israel’s genocide in Gaza, saying that what we are witnessing is an experiment by the mega-rich to show people how they will react to rebellion.
On July 16, Colombia hosted the first emergency conference of the Hague Group, a coalition formed by eight countries — Bolivia, Cuba, Honduras, Senegal, South Africa, Malaysia, Namibia and Colombia — “to take coordinated legal and diplomatic measures against Israel’s violations of international law.”
“Gaza is simply an experiment by the mega-rich to show all the people of the world how they will respond to humanity’s rebellion,” Petro said.
He also called out the leaders of NATO for being involved in the genocide as most of its 32 member countries, except Canada, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium, have sold or sent weapons to Israel.
“How can we stand with armies that drop bombs on children?” he said. “Those armies are not armies of freedom; they are armies of darkness.”
Following the meeting, the eight countries agreed to halt arms and military supplies to Israel, review contracts that help fund Israel’s genocide in Gaza, uphold the International Court of Justice’s arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Israel’s former defense minister, and call for an immediate ceasefire.
Petro has been a strong critic against Israel and is one of the few leaders who has called Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide.
He formally broke ties with Israel in 2024 and opened a Colombian embassy in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank.
