Chile Held A “Trial” For Darth Vader To Help People Understand How Courts Work And It’s Genius
Darth Vader was “sentenced” to 30 years in carbonite fiber for severing his son’s hand.
The main antagonist of the “Star Wars” Darth Vader went on trial in Chile and was found guilty of cutting off his son’s hand.
He was charged in relation to the events in the 1980 movie, “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”, where Vader severs off the hand of his son, Luke Skywalker, during a duel.
A court in Valparaiso, Chile, put Vader, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, on “trial” to help people better understand how courts work as part of Heritage Day.
During the mock trial, the prosecution – the legal team responsible for proving the accused person is guilty – presented video evidence of Vader cutting off Luke’s hand and requested a life sentence in carbonite fiber, meaning a frozen state.
Vader’s lawyer – also known as the defense – argued against the sentence, saying that although Vader is now mainly a machine, he is still a “human” and a “father” at the end of the day.
“He is a human being with rights, even if only in part… He is almost a machine, but he is also a man. He is a father,” the defense lawyer, Juan Carlos Manriquez, said, according to EuroNews.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Vader to a reduced sentence of 30 years in carbonite fiber for the crime of mutilating his son’s hand.
He was also issued a restraining order to stay three planets away from Luke for 30 years and banned from ever using the Dark Force and a lightsaber again.
It should be noted that the verdict did not take into account Vader’s other intergalactic crimes.
“To be honest, it was really entertaining… They made it in a way that was simple for children. They used a formal language, yes, but it wasn’t completely unintelligible,” Danae Lagos, a woman who attended the trial, said.
