Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez has revealed she competed while she was seven-months pregnant at the Paris Olympics 2024, and people think she’s amazing.
The 26-year-old fencer defeated her opponent, Team USA fencer Elizabeth Tartakovsky, on Monday, July 29, before losing to South Korean fencer Jeon Ha-Young in the next round.
“What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three!” Hafez wrote on her Instagram afterwards.
“It was me, my competitor, & my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!”
The fencer has also competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it,” she said. “I’m writing this post to say that pride fills my being for securing my place in the round of 16!”
Hafez, who also gained a degree in Medicine in 2022 before working as a clinical pathologist, then thanked her husband and her family for their support, adding that this Olympics was extra special.
