France’s President Said The West Must Stop Giving Israel A "Free Pass" To Continue Its Genocide

Macron argued that there cannot be "double standards” as the West cannot criticize Moscow for its aggression in Ukraine while remaining silent on Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

French president Emmanuel Macron has said that the West should not give Israel a "free pass" to continue its genocide in Gaza.

Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a major defense summit in Singapore on Friday, May 30, Macron warned that Western nations, including the US and those in Europe, risk "losing all credibility with the rest of the world" if they allow Israel to operate in Gaza without accountability, especially while simultaneously condemning Russia's war in Ukraine.

“If we abandon Gaza, if we consider there is a free pass for Israel, even if we do condemn the terrorist attacks, we will kill our credibility,” Macron said.

He argued that there cannot be "double standards” as the West cannot criticize Moscow for its aggression in Ukraine while remaining silent on Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

Macron also said that France, and potentially the EU, could "harden the collective position" against Israel if Israel does not adequately respond to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, mentioning the possibility of sanctions.

This comes after the UK, France and Canada jointly condemned Israel's intensified military offensive in Gaza as well as its blockade on aid on May 19, and said they are not afraid to add sanctions.

In response, Israel’s foreign minister accused Macron of leading a "crusade against the Jewish state" and dismissed his statements as ignoring the facts on the ground, claiming Israel has lifted its aid blockade by allowing approximately 900 trucks of humanitarian supplies into Gaza through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the controversial organization backed by Israel and the US.

At least 10 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces on Tuesday, May 27, as hundreds of thousands of people rushed to try to collect food being delivered by GHF in small, centralized distribution sites in Gaza that were heavily guarded by private security firms, a method condemned by the UN as “chaotic, undignified, unsafe and weaponizing aid.”

After blocking all humanitarian aid from entering Gaza since March 2, saying it won’t allow aid to enter Gaza till Hamas releases all the hostages, Israel finally allowed to enter Gaza to feed 2.3 million people on May 19, adding that it would only allow a “basic” amount of aid to enter the Strip.
