This Palestinian Dad Was Seen Calling Out For His Children Buried In The Rubble And It’s Heartbreaking
“I can’t hear you, my dears.”
A Palestinian dad has been captured frantically calling out and searching for his children buried in the rubble in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on Braij refugee camp in southern Gaza city.
The heartbreaking moment was captured by Motaz Azaiza, a Palestinian photographer who has been reporting live on-the-ground from Gaza, on Thursday Nov. 2.
In the video, the man is seen placing his head to the ground and calling out for his two children, saying “I can’t hear you, my dears”.
He then searches for them elsewhere in the rubble, calling their names – Salma and Saeed – repeatedly.
When he hears nothing in response, he breaks down, wailing repeatedly, “Didn’t I tell you to take care of your sister?”
Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza has killed at least 9,227 Palestinians in Gaza since Oct. 7, when it declared war on Hamas after it launched a surprise attack on Israel and killed about 1,400 Israelis.
More than 3,500 of those killed in Gaza are children, according to Save the Children.
Since the war began, a child is killed every 15 minutes in Gaza, according to the charity.
