This Doctor In Gaza Shared What He Witnessed As Israel Resumed Its Genocide And It's Heartbreaking

Mohammed Mustafa, an Australian emergency medicine trainee in Gaza, has shared a harrowing account of the devastation he witnessed through the night as Israel resumed its genocide in Gaza.

On Tuesday, March 18, at 2 am local time in Gaza, Israel launched “extensive airstrikes” across the Gaza Strip, killing more than 400 people in less than 24 hours, unilaterally ending the nearly two-month-long ceasefire.

Israel refused to implement phase two of the ceasefire, originally set to begin on March 1.

Instead, it insists that Hamas must now accept a new US deal, which would extend phase one by 50 days in exchange for Hamas releasing all Israeli hostages.

By 10 am local Gaza time on Tuesday, Mustafa, who has been volunteering in hospitals in Khan Younis, shared a video on his Instagram, calling the situation “catastrophic” as Israel’s relentless bombing continued.

“It’s mostly women and children. Burnt head to toe, limbs missing, heads missing,” he said.

He revealed that hospitals have run out of essential medicines, including ketamine and painkillers.

“We can’t sedate anyone. We can’t give them any analgesia. When we intubate people, they wake up and they are choking because we have no sedation. There are seven girls getting their legs amputated, (with) no anesthesia and the bombing is still going on,” Mustafa said.

He said that he was in Gaza in June 2024 but no attack has been this intense.

“This is unbelievable. And the bombing is still going on. The rooms are still shaking. The screams are everywhere,” he said.

He also shared that he worked through the entire night and has been feeling dizzy and light-headed as the smell of “burnt flesh” lingered in his nose.

Mustafa arrived in Gaza in June 2024 and has since used his social media to share stories of volunteering in hospitals and the resilience of the people of Gaza.

Since the ceasefire began on Jan. 19, Israel has been killing an average of three Palestinians in Gaza every day, according to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.
