This Iranian Woman Was Whipped 74 Times By The "Morality" Police For Violating The Mandatory Hijab Law

An Iranian woman in Tehran was whipped 74 times by the so-called “morality police” for not following the country’s mandatory hijab law.
The “morality” police reportedly arrested the woman for unveiling her headscarf and refusing to be forcibly detained in their vans.
In a hearing held weeks after the incident, the court sentenced her to 74 lashes.
A photo shared with Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad and posted on Sunday, Dec. 1, showed the woman’s back, which was severely scarred and red from the flogging.
In the photo, the woman was also seen holding a sign with a slogan that said, “Woman, Life, Freedom”.
“I won’t give up my fight against this brutal regime, but we are fed up with living as prisoners in our own homeland,” Alinejad said the woman told her when she sent in the photo.
After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iran has required all women and girls from age nine to wear a headscarf covering their hair since 1981.
Women who do not comply were punished with 74 lashes, but this was later amended to a fine and prison sentences of up to two months.
In 2022, Iran said it abolished the “morality police”, but reintroduced it in 2023 after brutally cracking down and ending the mass protests against the death of Mahsa Amini.
In January 2024, another Iranian woman, Roya Heshmati, was also sentenced to 74 lashes for “violating public morals” by not covering her head.
Since its reintroduction, there have been countless reports of the morality police using unnecessary force, intimidation and verbal abuse on women for not adhering to the “mandatory hijab laws”.
In November, the “morality” police also announced it is setting up "treatment clinics" for women who refuse to comply with the country's strict dress codes.
