Israel Has Assassinated A Senior Hamas Commander In Gaza, Killing Three Other People In The Strike

Israel has assassinated a senior Hamas commander in Gaza, killing three other people and injuring at least 25 others in the strike, with Hamas warning that Israel’s repeated violations might lead the “ceasefire” to collapse.
On Saturday, Dec. 13, Israeli forces bombed a car in Gaza City, targeting senior Hamas commander Raed Saad.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defense minister Israel Katz said in a joint statement that Israel “eliminated” Saad, claiming he was one of the “architects” of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack.
Israeli forces shared a video of the bombing and said Saad was the head of weapons production of Hamas’ Military Wing, one of the last remaining veteran senior militants in the Gaza Strip and a close associate of the deputy head of Hamas’ military wing Marwan Issa.
It claimed he was working on remilitarizing Hamas, adding that his assassination “significantly degrades Hamas’ ability to reestablish its capabilities.”
This marks Israel’s most significant assassination of a Hamas leader since the “ceasefire” began on Oct. 10.
Hamas sources have described Saad as the second-in-command of the group’s armed wing after Izz al-Din al-Haddad, according to Al Jazeera.
Hamas’ Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya confirmed in a statement on Sunday, Dec. 14 Saad had been assassinated.
“In the wake of Israel’s continued violations, including the latest assassination of a Hamas commander just yesterday, we call on the mediators and especially the US administration and US President Donald Trump as the main guarantor of the agreement, to force the occupation [Israel] to respect the ceasefire deal and to implement it,” Hayya said.
Israel has killed more than 393 Palestinians and injured more than 1,074 others since the “ceasefire” began.
