Right After The Ceasefire Deal Was Announced, Israel Mass Bombed Gaza And Killed At Least 82 People

Right after the announcement that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a ceasefire deal agreement, Israel intensified its attacks across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 82 people and suppressing people’s joy.

The strikes included an attack on makeshift tents sheltering displaced Palestinians in Deir el Balah shortly after the ceasefire announcement on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Another Israeli strike hit a residential area in Gaza City killing at least 18 people, while another attack in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood killed 12 people, according to the Palestinian Civil Defence.

Reports indicate that attacks continued across the strip throughout the night and was continuing as of Thursday, Jan. 16, with at least 25 more killed across various locations in Gaza.

The ceasefire deal announced on Sunday, Jan. 15, involves three phases with the first phase set to begin on Sunday, Jan. 19 which includes a halt in fighting, Hamas' release of 33 hostages, in return for Israel releasing about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including approximately 250 serving life sentences.

It also includes Israeli troops’ withdrawal from populated areas in Gaza to about 700 meters from Gaza’s border with Israel and allowing a surge of aid into Gaza.

However, the deal is pending Israeli cabinet approval as Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the cabinet will not convene as scheduled to endorse the agreement, citing a "last-minute crisis" caused by Hamas, Al Jazeera reported.
