Israel bombed Yemen one day after bombing Qatar’s capital, killing at least 46 people, including 25 journalists, after it hit two newspaper sites.

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, Israel struck civilian and residential areas in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and al-Jawf, killing at least 46 people, including 11 women and five children, and injured more than 165 others, according to AP.

The strikes also hit the offices of the 26 September and Al-Yemen newspapers, killing 25 journalists, according to Drop Site News.

The journalists were Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, Abdullah Al-Bahri, Mohammed Al-Omeisi, Sami Al-Zaidi, Faris Al-Rumaisa, Mohammed Al-Dawi, Youssef Shams Al-Din, Abdul Qawi Al-Asfour, Abdullah Al-Harazi, Zuhair Mohammed Al-Zakri, Lutf Hadiyan, Ali Al-Aqil, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Zakri, Murad Halboub, Jamal Al-Adhi, Abdo Al-Saadi, Salim Al-Watiri, Amal Al-Manakhy, Mohammed Al-Sanfi, Essam Al-Hashidi and his young son, Mohammed Hamoud Al-Matari, Abdul Wali Al-Najjar, Abdulaziz Shas, Bashir Dublan and Abbas Al-Dailami.

The bombing comes less than two weeks after Israel killed Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi, the prime minister of Yemen’s Houthi-led government, along with several other government ministers in an Aug. 28 airstrike.

In response to the assassination, the Houthis launched a drone strike on Israel’s Ramon Airport on Sunday, Sept. 7, which Israel failed to intercept.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday’s bombing was retaliation for the drone attack.

“We will continue to cleanse anyone who strikes us. Anyone who attacks us, we will reach them,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

The Houthis, an armed group backed by Iran that controls most of Yemen, have repeatedly launched missiles and drones at Israel since Oct. 7, 2023, as well as at commercial and military ships in the Red Sea.

In May 2025, the group announced a “comprehensive” aerial blockade on Israel in addition to its naval blockade.

This marks one of Israel’s deadliest attacks on journalists in the region.

Israel has now killed at least 248 journalists in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s media office.

This is the deadliest period for journalists since the Committee to Protect Journalists began gathering data in 1992.
