Israel Stormed The Last Hospital In North Gaza, Arrested Staff, Forced Patients To Leave Then Set It On Fire
Israeli forces also arrested the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who had refused to leave his patients.
After besieging it for weeks, Israeli forces have stormed Kamal Adwan, the last functioning hospital in North Gaza, arresting staff and forcing patients to strip to their underwear and leave the hospital before setting the building on fire.
Kamal Adwan was the only functioning hospital in north Gaza.
Israel began attacking it after besieging north Gaza on Oct. 6, 2024.
In recent weeks, it intensified its attacks, besieging the hospital.
About 350 people, including injured patients, were inside the hospital
The director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, had been injured by a strike in November, just a month after his son had just been killed by an israeli airstrike in October.
However, Abu Safyia still refused to leave his patients.
On Dec. 27, Israeli forces raided the hospital, claiming it was a Hamas base.
Israeli forces arrested staff and ordered patients to strip and leave the hospital.
A photo that went viral reportedly showed Abu Safiya walking out alone to face the Israeli military.
Israeli forces then set part of the hospital on fire, and it spread to all buildings.
Patients were later moved to Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, which has no power or equipment, according to Gaza's media office.
Israel has since confirmed it had arrested Abu Safiya, but his fate remains unknown.
