This Japanese Student Cosplayed As Ukrainian President Zelensky For Graduation And Totally Nailed It
The student, identified as Twitter user LohoG29i, said he respects Zelenskyy as “the real man among men.”
A Japanese student is going viral for cosplaying as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky for graduation to show his support for Ukraine.
The student at Kyoto University, later identified as Twitter user LohoG29i, wore Zelensky’s signature olive-green sweatshirt, which the president has been wearing since the Russian invasion, with a Ukrainian symbol on it to the graduation ceremony on Friday March 24.
He also carried a sign with a message from Zelensky’s speech to the US Congress in December.
Traditionally in Japan, graduates wear suits, formal dresses or traditional Japanese “hakama” trousers for graduation ceremonies.
However, Kyoto University has a special tradition, which allows students to dress up in any costume they wish to wear.
Every year, students come up with creative ideas and show up at the ceremony as different characters and items, including a student ID card, E.T., Jesus Christ and characters in Animal Crossing.
“Since December, when I was growing out my beard, I was told I look like President Zelensky,” LohoG29i said, according to the BBC.
He said it took him 3 months to grow his beard for the moment.
His costume has since gone viral on social media.
He said he respects Zelenskyy as “the real man among men,” he said in an interview with TV Osaka.
“All Ukrainian warriors in cold muddy trenches, squaring up to invader’s tanks with Javelins in hands, all Ukrainian civilians maintaining the nation, especially your own infrastructure and industry, you are all brave as well as President Zelensky. By virtue of all your effort!” he later tweeted.
