The Strokes Frontman Julian Casablancas Called Out American Zionists For Their “White Privilege” On “Subway Takes”
“American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people, but talk like they are Black people during slavery.”
Julian Casablancas, the frontman of American rock band The Strokes, has called out the “white privilege” of “American zionists” in a viral interview on the popular social media interview series, “Subway Takes” .
Zionism is a political and Jewish nationalist movement that believes that Judaism is a nationality and not just a religion and that Jews deserve their own state, their “ancestor homeland”, which is Israeli-occupied Palestine.
Casablancas shared four takes during his interview on the show, in which celebrities and New York commuters share their “hot takes” with host Kareem Rahma while on the city’s subway system.
“American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people, but talk like they are Black people during slavery,” Casablanca said in the final take published on April 21.
Rahma agreed, saying Zionist Americans’ r claims of oppression do not reflect their reality.
“They’re like, I’m so oppressed…I’m like, you are going to a wedding in Tel Aviv right now when there are 80,000 dead people and more 80,000 plus dead people, including women and children, half a mile away,” Rahma said.
Casablancas also addressed the debate around condemning Hamas for its attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, drawing comparisons to historical rebellions against oppression.
“October 7th, yes, bad,” he said, adding,“Native American rebellions didn’t mean it was okay to do what we did. Slave rebellions, they were violent, didn’t mean that slavery is not bad.”
This is not the first time Casablanca has voiced his opinion against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
On April 18, during The Strokes’ performance at Coachella, the band displayed a political video montage, calling out US foreign intervention around the world, including Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the US and Israel’s war on Iran.
