Netanyahu Told The People Of Lebanon “Israel Wants Peace” But Then Bombed Lebanon’s Capital
Netanyahu claimed Israel wants peace with the people in Lebanon, calling them to “seize [their] future” and “join Israel.”
Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told people in Lebanon that Israel wants peace and called on them to “join Israel” in its fight against Hezbollah, but then bombed Lebanon’s capital Beirut.
Israel has been bombing Lebanon, including Beirut, after Hezbollah, a Lebanese political party and militant group that has de facto control over south Lebanon and is funded by Iran, retaliated against Israel for killing Iran’s former supreme leader.
In mid-April, Israel, Lebanon and Hezbollah agreed to a 10-day ceasefire that was later extended, but Israel refused to remove troops in southern Lebanon, saying it was maintaining a “security zone.”
Both sides have repeatedly attacked each other, with Israel pushing its troops further into southern Lebanon, wiping out entire villages, and Hezbollah firing on Israeli troops in southern Lebanon.
On Tuesday, June 9, Israel bombed several southern Lebanon villages, killing at least 17 people, according to Lebanese authorities, the BBC reported.
The following day, Netanyahu posted a video addressing the people in Lebanon directly.
“Israel is not at war with you,” Netanyahu told the Lebanese people. “We’re at war with Hezbollah that has taken your country hostage, that does Iran’s bidding, that uses your territory to launch terrorist attacks against Israel.”

Just a few days later, on Sunday, June 14, Israel bombed Beirut southern suburb’s Ghobeiri neighborhood, a heavily populated residential area, killing one person and injuring dozens of people.
Videos on social media showed clouds of smoke rising and at least one apartment destroyed.
Israel said it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in retaliation to Hezbollah drones hitting northern Israel.
Israel has killed at least 3,696 people in Lebanon since March 2, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
It now occupies about 2,000 square kilometers of Lebanese territory, roughly one-fifth of the country, according to Al Jazeera, and has displaced more than one million people, according to the UN.
